In her beloved Mali, she is known as the "Duchess of Bamako." In 1994, she created the Bamako Photography Biennale, helping to bring Seydou Keita and Malick Sidibé in the History of Photography and to highlight African photographers. The book Afrique Émoi traces Françoise Huguier's photographic journey through ten countries on the continent. It presents a wide variety of subjects: portraits of political figures, artists, writers, filmmakers, musicians, but also an immersion in the Dogon Country in Mali, as well as in the Shembe sect, among others in Durban, South Africa, a meeting of Ethiopian Copts, coverage of the 1991 coup d'état in Mali, François Mitterrand's trip in 1994... So many subjects that allow us to see places that are now difficult to access and bear witness to a clearly bygone era. The 480-page book is structured into chapters that follow the photographer's journey across the continent, moving from one encounter to another, one subject leading to the next. The various sections are introduced by texts, in the form of short notes, which recount Françoise Huguier's career and put the photographs into perspective with their context. An English translation of the texts is included at the end of the book. Presented primarily in black and white, the book includes a few color photographs at the end.
