He was born in Arlon, in the Duchy of Luxembourg, around 1470, and distinguished himself as a great humanist: a friend of Erasmus and Thomas More, he was behind the founding in Louvain, within the University, of the\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cem\u003eCollegium Trilingue\u003c\/em\u003e , also called\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cem\u003eCollegium Trium Linguarum\u003c\/em\u003e ,\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cem\u003eCollegium Buslidianum\u003c\/em\u003e , in contemporary Dutch\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cem\u003eCollegie der Dry Tonghen\u003c\/em\u003e , or more simply said\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cem\u003eDry Tonghen\u003c\/em\u003e . The College (part of the building of which still exists in Leuven) was inaugurated in September 1518.\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n \u003cp\u003eThe Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (KU Leuven) and the Catholic University of Louvain (UCLouvain), both heirs of\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cem\u003eStudium generale Lovaniense\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003esuppressed in 1797 by the French Regime, have each chosen to celebrate this anniversary in their own way: the first, with an exhibition accompanied by two works on the college of the Ancien Régime; the second, by the organization of a conference devoted to the restoration and subsequent developments of the orientalist tradition within the Catholic University \"restored\" by the Belgian bishops in Malines in 1834 within the framework of constitutional freedom of education and transferred to Louvain the following year. It is the contributions presented on this occasion, which are the subject of this collection of studies, to which are added one or other texts allowing to complete the overall picture thus offered.
