He roamed Paris day and night, photographing Colette, Gabrielle Chanel, Henri Matisse, and Marlene Dietrich, as well as Blaise Cendrars, with whom he shared a cabin during the inaugural voyage of the ocean liner Normandie. He was the first to photograph the model Assia Granatouroff, who became the symbol of artistic nude photography during the interwar period.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n \u003cp class=\"p1\"\u003e\u003cspan class=\"s1\"\u003eHis images contributed significantly to the rise of the illustrated press.
