Medieval archives, particularly municipal ones, combined with maps, plans and other illustrated sources, often more recent, make it possible to follow the evolution of certain towns up to the beginning of the 16th century and to see how they asserted themselves through the exercise of relative power, their economic role, their way of life and their defensive measures.
