The artist arrived in Japan in April 1914, drawing and painting tirelessly. He was helped by the great industrialist\u003c\/span\u003e \u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003eKatsutarô Inabata and the painter Takeshirô Kanokogui. Méheut left Japan as soon as general mobilization was proclaimed. The influence of his stay in Japan on his work was felt until his death in 1958. Two of the authors, great-granddaughters of Mathurin Méheut, traveled to Japan in the footsteps of their ancestor in order to precisely identify and see the places where the artist had worked and carried out ethnographic work at the beginning of the Taishô period.
